1. Non-white. The new trend in cabinets is… anything but white. Gray is especially a hot color right now. Combine soft gray cabinetry with bold hardwood finishes for a top-notch look that’s super hot right now.

2. Add hydraulics. New solutions to functionality are in. Hydraulic doors fold up and out of the way, so you don’t have to worry about hitting your head on a swinging cabinet door!

3. Funky fixtures. You don’t need to choose an obnoxious wall color to make an impression. Choose bold statement fixtures instead! From sleek and sexy, to antique and delicate, you can show your personality through draw pulls and handles.

4. Mix materials. When it comes to countertops, why not mix wood with quartz? Wooden countertops (especially butcher block styles) are a hot trend right now, so if you like the look of both, why not mix them?

5. Build your “work triangle.” The three points of your kitchen work triangle are the range, the sink, and the fridge. Customizing your kitchen around this essential tri-station is a must!

Every time you make food, you’re frustrated with running back and forth for ingredients, prep tools, with very little counter space. Making food becomes stressful and a not-so-fun experience. The kitchen should be the place where you can throw on some music, pull out your ingredients, and have plenty of space to prepare a gorgeous meal for family or friends. Doesn’t sound like you? It might be time to remodel.

The National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) compiled a list of questions for homeowners to ask themselves when considering a remodeling project.

1. Are you satisfied with the amount of space in your kitchen? That includes countertop, cabinet storage, and amount of floor space.

Did you know that small things such as the position of your fridge and the shape of your

counter could actually be taking away from your cooking ease? Remodeling creates more usable workspace, therefore less hair being pulled out from frustration.

2. Do you entertain? Do you usually have a so-called sous chef helping you?

If so, you may want to consider a more open floor plan for your kitchen, especially directing

traffic flow around the main workspace. This creates easy routes for entertaining and

cooking with more than one person in the kitchen. Jemson Cabinetry will help organize the

easiest flow of traffic when it comes to using your kitchen.

Do you have children? Are your appliances outdated?
Making sure your appliances are up-to-date is very important in the safety of your children.

Things like sharp corners on countertops and the overall outdated design of your kitchen can be hazardous to young children. Jemson Cabinetry will take this into account when creating a custom design just for you.

These are just a few of the questions you should consider. If you have said yes to any of these, Jemson Cabinetry can help ease your mind. Contact us today!

What's the difference between traditional and contemporary ? Why the distinction?

"Contemporary" are styles being produced now, the designs of the moment.

"Traditional" styles similar with the past, the modern designs of before the Industrial Revolution.

"Contemporary" is of it's time, innovative, and forward-looking but not limited to a single stylistic idea. It incorporates the stylistic twist of the machine age: an absence of ornament, structures of steel or concrete, large expanses of glass, a whitewash or another minimal exterior expression, and open floor plans.

While "Traditional" recalls styles produced in the early/mid 20th-century.

Painting your kitchen cabinets can be a great way to really open up a space and give your home personality. However, there are some important things to think about before taking the plunge.

Are my cabinets paintable?

Wood and metal cabinets take paint well but these surfaces will need to be sanded down and cleaned thoroughly before any paint is applied. If you have laminate or melamine finishes you can still resurface, but it is highly recommended you find a professional to get the job done right.

What type of Paint will I need?

You want a strong, high quality paint that will withstand daily use. Satin or Semi-gloss paints are examples of a more durable paint. You want to layer it on the surfaces for a beautiful finish and to give the paint strength.

What tools will I need?

Spray Guns create the cleanest finish, however, if you are not experienced using this tool try it out on some scraps first. The quickest and simplest tool to use is a foam roller. They leave a very light pattern on the surface but you can paint with speed and consistency.

How much downtime are we talking here?

The amount of time can change based on the size of your kitchen, but typically you can expect to be without a functional kitchen for at least four days, including drying time.

While Granite is more popular, laminate has developed into a cost effective, long lasting, attractive alternative. Laminate tops have come a long way since the 1920s by developing more textures and colors. But its appeal goes deeper than just looks. Laminate tops have proven to withstand stains, heat, and impact as well as other more expensive materials.

Let’s Talk Prices

Laminate is an inexpensive option for those looking to remodel. Typically it costs a lot less than other materials, about $10 to $50 a square foot installed. Jemson offers different laminates to pick from. Stop by our showroom to look at samples and try them in your home.

Age Isn’t a Factor

Countertops take a lot of abuse over the years. Laminate has been tested for durability against dings, scratches, scorch marks, and knife slices and resists most damages, stains, and heat. Unfortunately laminate is easily scratched by knives and isn’t repairable. So it’s a good idea to keep a cutting board at hand.

Goodbye, Ugly Seams

So we’ve established that Granite is more popular, but laminate is making a comeback. Brands like Formica and Wilsonart offer all different kinds of textures and color patterns to choose from, providing the exact style you need to tie a room together. Even better, that ugly seamed edge is gone! Now you can choose to add a decorative edge, effectively eliminating those ugly seams and black lines.
